About Us

Schema Therapy Academy of Australia (STAA) was founded by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals united by a passion for Schema Therapy. Schema Therapy is an integrative therapeutic approach that expands the traditional cognitive behavioural therapy model to include elements of attachment theory, psychodynamic concepts, and emotion-focused therapies in one comprehensive treatment model. Driven by collaborative case conceptualisation adhering to the Schema Therapy model, this approach allows flexible, client centred application of a range of therapeutic techniques, with emphasis on self-defeating life patterns, longstanding emotional themes, effective change techniques, and limited/adaptive reparenting within the therapeutic relationship. We offer training and supervision in Schema Therapy to therapists who would like to gain standard or advanced level certification in individual Schema Therapy through the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST), as well as to therapists who are interested in less formal training programs. Benefits of certification through the ISST include an international recognition of competence in practicing Schema Therapy, potential opportunities to be involved in research and training, and inclusion in an international network of certified Schema Therapists. Our vision is to support therapists in developing a solid foundation of knowledge and practice in Schema Therapy, then to extend this foundation with extended training modules that draw upon the particular experience of each of our training team.
Our unique Schema Therapy enrichment modules include:
STAA is home to "Little STAA", an ISST approved Child-Adolescent Schema Therapy Training Program. We are proud to offer training and certification for therapist interested in applying Schema Therapy in work with Children, Adolescents, and their families. We also offer services to support therapist self-reflection and building awareness of the therapist’s own schemas and modes to prevent exhaustion and burn-out, while increasing wellbeing. STAA aims to create a safe place for therapists to extend their knowledge and practice of Schema Therapy while also acknowledging their own humanity and need for self-care. |
